My wedding ring

For the three of you interested in the saga of my lost then found wedding ring, well, read on.

Thursday night I had the opportunity to help out at my youngest son's baseball practice at Brookside School in Greece. It was coolish but not unbearable and we actually got a full practice in. I was on my feet the whole night backing up the various coaches when there was an overthrow from one of the boys (there were not as many as I expected) and kept my glove on practically the whole night. I remember taking it off twice and also noticing that it was fitting rather snugly for some reason.

Well, the practice ended and my son was home and in bed when I sat down to do some work on the computer. That is when I noticed that my ring was gone. I knew exactly what happened. Well, I knew that it fell off when I took my glove off at practice, but I didn't know where or when. I went into my son's bat bag and looked for the ring inside of the bag and my glove. Nothing. I looked around in the car. Still nothing. So...it was off to the field in the dark and rain to go look for it. I had a flashlight and two eyes so I thought I had a pretty good shot at finding it. Yeah, no.

The next day we were going to go out as a family to look for the ring. My wife called the school to let them know the situation (that is a topic for another blog post) and my dad eventually signed onto the expedition. When we got there we noticed that they had cut the grass (which could be good or bad) and we began the hunt. I looked around in the outfield where I was for a good portion of the night and tried to be as systematic as possible with the whole thing. Well, about a half hour into the search I was feeling like I was going to have to get another ring.

Unbeknownst to me my youngest son mentioned to my wife that he knew the location of where my chair was that night so she concentrated her search there. And she found it. Oh my word that was such a relief and an answer to prayer. What had happened was that I took my glove off and threw it in the chair after practice was done and that is when the ring fell off of my hand and onto the ground. I cannot tell you how thankful I am to God that I have this back on my finger.

Afterwards we celebrated with some of the best Gelato I ave ever had at Oriens Cafe. But we would have gotten that even if we hadn't found it. It did, however, give me a chance to stare at the ring on my finger like a newly engaged woman. Which is not how I feel most of the time. But it did feel kind of good...okay I need to stop writing.

  4. :)

My Darling's wedding ring was mangled years ago and never replaced. I think I miss it more than he does. Thankfully, our marriage has survived those years that desperately tried to make a mangled mess out of us. God is good, and merciful.

Truthfully, I think there is nothing more beautiful than a wedding band on a faithful man's finger.

  5. Thanks for the comment, Martha. For me, the ring is a physical manifestation and reminder (challenge even) of Nan's commitment to me. That is why I missed it so much. It is not like Nan's commitment was now null and void without it, but I just have a desire to go to my grave, or start my way to heaven, with it on.
